What is NextGen?

A leadership development and ministry initiative focused on helping the next generation of leaders step into meaningful opportunities as lead pastors, missionaries, and church planters. NextGen Resurgence is also about helping existing Nazarene churches thrive and the Colorado District grow. The dream is to start (or restart) new congregations throughout the State of Colorado.

Who We Are.

NextGen Resurgence is a group of people dedicated to the Great Commission in Matthew 28 and the Church of the Nazarene Mission Statement. TO MAKE CHRISTLIKE DISCIPLES IN THE NATIONS.

 

Participants include the District Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent, the NextGen Resurgence Director, the District Advisory Board, host church lead pastors and their boards, and the laity in our local churches. NextGen Resurgence is the defining vision and strategy for the Colorado District in the years ahead. 

 

In addition to these people, your NextGen Resurgence ministry fellows, missionaries, and church planters will be called to advance the mission in Colorado.

NextGen Resurgence exists to make Christlike disciples by discovering, developing, and deploying the next generation of lead pastors, missionaries, and church planters. We believe God is still calling leaders to step forward, embrace their purpose, and make a lasting difference in their communities.

Our Vision

We envision a future where young leaders are engaged, equipped, and empowered to lead thriving ministries throughout Colorado and beyond. NextGen Resurgence is not only creating pathways for a "seat at the table" but also leading those at the table! Our vision is to see a vibrant, growing movement of young leaders who are rooted in their faith, confident in their calling, and prepared to multiply their influence wherever God leads them.

Our Values

We believe leadership begins with a calling from God and grows through intentional investment, real ministry experience, and meaningful relationships. We value prayer because we can do nothing apart from listening first to God. We value mentorship because no leader should have to navigate ministry alone. We value discipleship because healthy leaders are first faithful followers of Christ. We value innovation because new challenges require fresh approaches to ministry. We value multiplication because healthy churches develop leaders who go on to serve, plant, and lead others. We value collaboration because ministry is strongest when churches, pastors, and organizations work together toward a common purpose. Director

Jeff Alexander has a passion for seeing young leaders discover the unique calling God has placed on their lives. As Director of NextGen Resurgence, he works closely with churches and ministry partners to equip, encourage, and launch the next generation into meaningful ministry. Jeff believes the future of the Church is strengthened when emerging leaders are given opportunities to learn, serve, and thrive within a supportive community.

Dr. Virgil Askren

District Superintendent

Dr. Virgil Askren is passionate about investing in the next generation of ministry leaders and helping churches thrive. As District Superintendent of the Colorado District Church of the Nazarene, he partners with pastors and congregations to strengthen local churches and expand opportunities for future leaders. Virgil believes lasting Kingdom impact begins with faithful leadership, intentional discipleship, and raising up those called to serve.

Dr. Kevin Compton

Assistant District Superintendent

Kevin Compton is committed to helping churches cultivate healthy leaders and create environments where the next generation can flourish. Through his leadership with the Colorado District Church of the Nazarene, he partners with pastors and ministry leaders to encourage growth and support emerging leaders as they step into God's calling. Kevin believes the Church is strongest when leaders are equipped, connected, and empowered to serve others.

Our Story

How a vision for the next generation became NextGen Resurgence.

NextGen Resurgence was launched by the Colorado District Church of the Nazarene in response to a growing need for the next generation of pastors, missionaries, and church planters. As many churches face an aging clergy population and communities continue to grow and change, the need for new leaders has never been greater.

 

The vision for NextGen Resurgence is simple: create meaningful opportunities for emerging leaders to gain experience, receive mentorship, and step into significant ministry roles. By investing directly in people, churches, and new ministry efforts, NextGen Resurgence seeks to strengthen existing congregations, launch new works, and help build a vibrant future for the Church throughout Colorado.

 

What began as a dream to create opportunities for young leaders has grown into a movement focused on developing, sending, and multiplying leaders who are called to make a lasting Kingdom impact.
